Apple Delays Launch of Smart Display Due to Siri AI Development Issues
Apple's highly anticipated smart display launch faces delays, primarily due to challenges in advancing Siri's artificial intelligence capabilities.

Apple has postponed the launch of its highly anticipated smart display due to delays in the development of Siri's artificial intelligence update. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the device has been delayed because it "depends on the delayed capabilities of Siri." The smart display, which has been rumored for months, is expected to serve as a new hub for smart home functionality, similar to devices offered by Amazon and Google.
This forthcoming smart display is anticipated to be Apple's first smart home hub with display support for Apple Intelligence and operate on tvOS. It is expected to support native Apple applications such as Calendar, Notes, and Messages. However, the current version of Apple Intelligence lacks smart home capabilities, making the commercial launch of an AI-assisted smart display less viable at this moment.
Last week, Apple announced that its updated intelligent assistant is taking "longer than we thought" to develop and will therefore not arrive in the upcoming iOS 18 as originally promised. This delay could provide competitors like Amazon and Google a significant advantage in the smart display market. Recently, Amazon announced the rollout of AI enhancements in Alexa, starting with its Echo Show smart displays. Meanwhile, Google has begun integrating Gemini into certain Nest speakers since December.
