Apple to Introduce Advanced Language Model for Siri by 2027, Enhancing Conversational Capabilities
Apple is set to transform Siri with an advanced language model, promising enhanced conversational capabilities by 2027, aiming to rival leading AI assistants.

Apple is currently working on a revamped version of Siri that aims to better understand context and engage in more conversational interactions, slated for release with iOS 20. Although the voice assistant has seen gradual improvements over the years, it may not match the capabilities of its competitors until the anticipated iOS 20 release, projected for 2027.
Recent reports from Mark Gurman suggest that Apple is investing significant resources into enhancing Siri through the implementation of an advanced language model (LLM Siri). This upgrade is designed to unify Siri’s infrastructure and make it significantly more efficient, allowing the assistant to interpret and respond better in complex contexts. While iOS 19 will introduce some enhancements, the more conversational version of Siri could be at least two years away, which means users may have to wait until 2027 to engage in a dialogue reminiscent of interactions with more advanced AI like ChatGPT.
Creating an advanced conversational assistant is no small feat, and while Apple has made strides, the pace of evolution hasn't always felt as rapid as many would hope. Having a more intelligent and emotionally aware Siri could transform user experiences, moving beyond the simple "request-response" dynamic. Currently, users are still waiting for Siri to catch up to what is possible with tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
In the meantime, a startup named Sesame has emerged with a conversational assistant named Maya, which reportedly offers interactions that feel incredibly natural and human-like. Although Maya currently only speaks English, it has demonstrated an impressive understanding of Spanish, showcasing the potential for engaging and contextually aware conversations. Users have noted that Maya's responses are not only clever but also reflect emotional nuances, further enhancing the interactive experience.
Historically, Apple has made acquisitions to integrate innovative technologies into its ecosystem. With successful purchases such as Beats for Apple Music and Intel’s modem division, could we see a similar move with Sesame to enhance Siri's capabilities? Although there is no official rumor about such a purchase, it’s clear that Apple’s approach to bolstering its offerings through acquisitions has proven effective in the past.
The upcoming release of iOS 18.5 promises exciting improvements, including the ongoing development of LLM Siri, which is a step in the right direction. Whether Apple will integrate external innovations like Sesame’s technology remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that transformative changes are on the horizon for Siri in the coming years. The anticipation grows as users hope to experience a more dynamic and responsive Siri long before iOS 20 becomes available.
