iOS 18.4 Home app adds support for Matter robot vacuums
Apple's latest iOS 18.4 beta enriches the Home app with innovative features, including seamless control for Matter-compatible robot vacuums like the Switchbot S10.

Apple has just released the first beta of iOS 18.4, introducing a noteworthy enhancement to its Home app that many users may not have anticipated. This update allows seamless integration with robot vacuums, specifically starting with the Switchbot S10 Robot Vacuum and Mop, which is the only current model supporting the Matter protocol.
This native support within the Home app means users can now utilize Siri voice commands across various Apple devices, empowering them to control their robot vacuum effortlessly. The Home app provides a user-friendly interface that allows for straightforward commands, enabling users to start cleaning sessions, halt operations, toggle the mop on or off, and select preset cleaning modes like Quick or Deep Clean. There is also a convenient “Send to Dock” function, prompting the vacuum to return to its charging station when needed.
For users seeking more advanced features such as room mapping and custom route creation, it remains necessary to access the manufacturer's companion app. However, the fundamental controls and integration with HomeKit automations are made significantly easier through the Apple Home app, ensuring a more connected smart home experience.
iOS 18.4 is currently in its developer phase and is slated for public release as a free iPhone software update in April. Additionally, similar Matter robot vacuum support will extend to other Apple operating systems, including iPadOS 18.4, tvOS 18.4, watchOS 11.4, and macOS 15.4.
